A perennial favourite at Old Home Week is the Sheep Show where young yearlings and lambs get all the attention, except for that given to their showers, who can be as young as seven years old during the Junior Show.
Over 20 exhibitors will bring in approximately 100 sheep from breeds including Suffolk, North County Cheviot, Dorset, Hampshire, and Texel. Market class, or mixed-breed sheep, are also part of the show. Of course, shearing sheep is part of the show as well. A professional shearer will be on hand Monday evening for an impressive display of this long-standing practice. Can a sheep be completely sheared in less than two minutes? Watch and find out.
Even when not competing, the sheep prove to be a popular attraction with many visitors gathering around their pens, petting the gentle, wooly animals.
